Dior Vintage Bag Look – Wenn mich das letzte Jahr eines gelehrt hat, dann ist es, dass jeder seines Glückes Schmied ist und ‚Erfolg‘ niemandem zufliegt, sondern immer und in jeder Lebenslage mit harter Arbeit verbunden ist. Ich habe Erfolg deshalb in Anführungszeichen gesetzt, weil ich das Gefühl habe, dass Erfolg automatisch mit beruflichem Erfolg gleichgesetzt wird. Für mich bedeutet Erfolg aber vor allem, mit mir selbst im Reinen zu sein, meine Entscheidungen und Handlungen bewusst zu treffen, Konsequenzen zu tragen und mein Leben so erfüllt wie nur möglich zu leben.

Ich habe neulich von einem up and coming Star aus England gelesen, der wohl die Hochzeit seines Zwillingsbruders geskipped hat, weil er eine Audition hatte, die ihm in dem Moment wichtiger war. Für ihn war es das Sprungbrett, seine Gesangskarriere blüht seither. Zu seinem Bruder hat er allerdings keinen Kontakt mehr. DUH!? Nie im Leben würde mir in den Sinn kommen, meinen Job (so sehr ich ihn auch liebe) über meine Familie oder Freunde zu stellen. Was bringt mir der größte berufliche Erfolg, wenn ich ihn privat mit niemandem teilen kann?

Mir hat das zu denken gegeben und ich habe mich gefragt, ob das heißt, dass mir der nötige Biss fehlt, um beruflich wirklich erfolgreich zu werden. Wie weit bin ich bereit Abstriche zu machen und Kompromisse einzugehen, ohne mein Privatleben dafür aufs Spiel zu setzen? Und reicht das aus, um mein Business trotzdem erfolgreich zu führen?

Was mich das letzte Jahr noch gelehrt hat, ist, dass nicht immer alles nur Schwarz und Weiß ist. Es ist nicht immer nur entweder oder. Man muss nicht zwingend zwischen Karriere und Familie entscheiden. Man muss nur die richtige Balance finden, um beiden ‚Jobs‘ gerecht zu werden und mit den nötigen Kompromissen auf beiden Seiten gut leben zu können.

Ich glaube, wir alle hatten schon einmal eine Zeit, in der wir uns gefangen gefühlt haben. Gefangen in einem Käfig, den wir uns selbst gebaut haben. Aus Unsicherheiten, Gesellschaftskonventionen, denen wir nicht gerecht zu werden glauben und fehlendem Mut.

Was, wenn es schief geht?

– Was aber, wenn es klappt?

Viel zu oft lassen wir Dinge unversucht, weil wir Angst haben, zu scheitern. Oder nicht bereit sind, Kompromisse einzugehen und unsere Komfortzone zu verlassen. Ich habe mir vorgenommen, in Zukunft weniger in Frage zu stellen und mehr zu wagen. Mich von vermeintlichen Niederlagen nicht unterkriegen zu lassen und mein Glück selbst in die Hand zu nehmen. Zufrieden zu sein, mit dem, was ich habe und aktiv die Dinge zu ändern, mit denen ich unzufrieden bin. Vielleicht schaffe ich es dann, sowohl privat als auch beruflich den Erfolg zu erleben, von dem ich träume.

If the last year has taught me one thing, then it is that everyone is responsible for his or her own happiness and that ‘success’ does not come easy to anyone, but is always and in every situation a consequence of hard work. I put success in quotation marks here because I have the feeling that success is automatically equated with professional success. For me, success means being at peace with myself, making conscious decisions and acting consciously on them, bearing the consequences and living as fulfilled a life as possible.

I recently read about an up and coming star from England who apparently skipped his twin brother’s wedding because he had an audition that was more important to him. For him it was the stepping stone, his singing career has flourished ever since. But he is not talking to his brother anymore. DUH!? Never in my life would it occur to me to put my job (as much as I love it) above my family or friends. What good is the greatest professional success if I cannot share it with the people I love?

It made me think and I wondered whether this meant that I lacked the necessary 1000% commitment to really be successful in this industry. How far am I willing to cut back and compromise without putting my private happiness at risk? And is that still enough to run my business successfully?

What I also learned last year is that not everything is always black and white. It doesn’t always have to be either or. You don’t necessarily have to choose between career and family. You just have to find the right balance to do justice to both ‘jobs’ and to get the best of both worlds, but also be able to accept and live with the necessary compromises on both sides.

I think we’ve all had a time before where we felt trapped. Trapped in a cage we built ourselves. From insecurities, social conventions that we don’t believe we can live up to and a lack of courage.

What if things go wrong?

– But what if things work out just fine?

Far too often we leave things untried because we are too afraid of failing. Or are unwilling to compromise and leave our comfort zone. I have set myself the goal of questioning less and daring more from now on. Not to let my supposed defeats get me down and to take my happiness into my own hands. To be satisfied with what I have and actively change the things that I want changed. Perhaps I will then be able to enjoy the success I dream of, both privately and professionally.
